AboutFrom the beginning, Wilson 2020 Community Vision has been a broad-based effort including the city and county, business and community, schools and colleges, social initiatives and churches. Growing out of a mutual understanding of the importance of creating a shared vision for the future of the Wilson Community, a group of about 40 citizens representing interests across the community began meeting to discuss how to accomplish that ambitious goal. This group, Wilson Forward Together, quickly came to an understanding that such a goal would require coordination and support beyond that available from volunteers. Wilson Forward Together requested that Wilson Leadership Roundtable begin a search for a consultant to support this strategic planning effort. The Roundtable (a group of community leaders representing business, government, schools, colleges, health services, and economic development) appointed a search committee to recommend a consultant. After extensive conversations with a wide variety of consultants, regionally and nationally, followed by public presentations by select consultants to the Roundtable and the Wilson Forward Together group, the UNC School of Government was selected to support this planning effort. Following the selection of UNC SOG, a broadly based Steering Committee has been formed to lead this community-wide (city and county) effort. A smaller Management Committee was put in place to manage the details of scheduling and coordination. “Wilson 2020 Community Vision” has been selected as the official name for this strategic planning effort, funding has been secured, a logo has been created, committees have been formed to accomplish specific aspects of the planning process, and a timetable for completing the project by summer 2007 has been set. Creating an overall vision of the Wilson Community is underway!
